Texas Bus Accidents are more
common than many people think. With deregulation of
the bus industry standards and NAFTA, has come increased bus
traffic on older and more poorly maintained buses driven by
overworked, poorly supervised, and under trained bus
drivers. Some of these bus drivers have histories of
reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs or
alcohol. As such, the number of Texas Bus Accident Injury
Lawsuits have increased and is expected to continue to
increase as more and more bus passengers are injured and
killed. Below are some news stories regarding bus
accidents that have injured or killed bus passengers:
San Marcos Texas Bus Crash Injury Accident Lawsuit
A bus accident in San Marcos Texas caused
a young 4-year-old girl to lose her leg when a bus bound
from Laredo flipped. The bus crash injured 18 people
when the fatigued bus driver fell asleep at the wheel and
lost control of the bus he was driving on I35. The
young girl's parents have filed a bus accident injury
lawsuit against the Dallas based bus company, Mares Bus Lines Inc., that
owned and operated the bus. Among other damages, the
family is seeking compensation for the injuries, mental and
physical suffering, and permanent impairment & disfigurement
that their daughter has suffered.
Houston-bound Mexico Charter-Bus Crash in Victoria Texas
Kills One and Send Several Passengers to the Hospital
Investigators are seeking answers to
determine the cause of a fatal bus injury accident in south
Texas. This Mexico charter-bus injury accident killed
one person and injured dozens of others. The
charter-bus from Houston from Monterrey, Mexico, overturned
on U.S. 59. According to witnesses and DPS officials, it
appears that a fatigued bus driver overcorrected after the
bus veered off the road. This overcorrection caused
the charter-bus to land on its side.
The charter-bus was owned by Capricorn
Bus Lines Inc. and under lease to International Charter
Services Inc. These Mexico charter-bus trips are common and
many bus companies provide charter-bus trips to Mexico from
Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and other parts of Texas and
the United States.
In the aftermath of the charter-bus
injury accident 20 passengers were admitted to the hospital
several in serious condition and another 24 people were
brought to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria to be
examines. One of the more critically injured
passengers has to be airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center
in San Antonio and two passengers were airlifted to Wilford
Hall Medical Center in San Antonio.
In addition to the Victoria bus-charter
crash, a Greyhound slammed into a tractor-trailer and
plunged down an embankment on the same day.
Legal news for Texas bus accident attorneys. New
developments reported in fatal bus crash that injured 30
people in southern Texas.
"An Autobuses Americans tour bus crash in
Texas was likely caused by equipment failure, which injured
30 passengers.
San Antonio, TX—New developments have
been reported concerning the fatal tour bus crash that
killed two people along a southern Texas highway. According
to reports provided by USA Today and previous Justice News
Flash coverage, the tour bus overturned on Tuesday, March
16, 2010 injuring at least 30 people.
A tour bus carrying 40 people from Mexico
and the U.S., suddenly veered off the right side of
Interstate 37 around 10:00 a.m., and cut back across the
road, into the median, before overturning on its right side.
Officials believe that equipment failure may be the culprit
for the deadly rollover crash. When medical teams arrived at
the scene, they found stunned and shocked passengers,
visibly cut and bruised, waiting to be treated by medical
professionals. Responding emergency crews transported at
least 30 people, some with serious injuries, to area
hospitals for treatment. It is believed that eight victims
were airlifted from the accident scene, while the rest were
transported via ground ambulance. Currently 24 passengers
are listed in stable condition at South Texas Regional
Medical Center in Atascosa County. One victim who was
treated at South Texas Regional was later airlifted to
another hospital in San Antonio for further medical
attention. Two others were taken to Brooke Army Medical
Center in San Antonio, while four others were taken to
University Hospital in San Antonio. Two fatalities were
reported following the crash. The deceased victims were
identified as 62-year-old Christina Lozano Campos of
Lewisville, and 27-year-old Efrain Dominguez-Valenzuela of
Brownsville.
The bus, operated by Autobuses Americanos,
a Greyhound company, was headed from San Antonio to
Matamoros, Mexico, with a pre-planned stop in Falfurrias,
Texas, when the crash occurred. Two buses were dispatched to
the scene following the wreck to transport the uninjured
passengers to either their final destination in Mexico or
back to San Antonio. The National Transportation Safety
Board (NTSB)

an investigation."
Safety Officers not on Duty when Unsage Bus that Caused a
Fatal Accident entered Texas and the United States
By: Associated Press
"A federal transportation official said
no Texas or U.S. motor safety officers were on duty when an
unsafe bus crossed the border hours before a fatal crash.
National Transportation Safety Board investigator Pete
Kotowski spoke at a hearing Tuesday exploring the January
crash near Victoria, Texas, that killed one man. The bus was
carrying 46 passengers.
Kotowski said the bus was checked by
customs and border officers when it came into the United
States at a Laredo, Texas, crossing. It was returning to
Houston from Monterrey, Mexico.
Bus owner Capricorn Bus Lines Inc. of
Houston wasn't allowed to operate buses outside Texas. This
bus could travel to Mexico because it was leased to
International Charter Services Inc., also of Houston."
Bus Company Offers No Explanation for Hiring Driver with
DWIs
By: Associated Press
"Officials from a charter bus company
could not explain why they hired the driver now being
investigated in a fatal bus accident despite his three prior
convictions for drunken driving. Baltazar Flores Jr.,
of Houston-based Capricorn Bus Lines, said yesterday the
company doesn't hire unsafe drivers." The bus company
officials could not say why the company hired a bus driver
that had three convictions for drunken driving.
The charter bus was traveling to Houston
from Monterrey, Mexico when the driver misjudged a curve and
lost control of the vehicle near Victoria. During the
bus crash the bus turned over on its side killing one man
and causing a female passenger to lose her arm.
Normally, bus companies examine a
drivers' records and have them undergo physicals and drug
testing during the hiring process. Failure to follow
these procedures can all unsafe and reckless drivers behind
the wheel of large buses resulting in devastating bus
