Americanos USA Mexico-Bound Bus Crashes in Texas Killing 2 Passengers and Injuring Several Other Passengers

A Texas to Mexico Bus crashed in Campbellton, Atacosa County, Texas on Interstate 37 killing two passengers and injuring over 30 passengers.  The bus was owned by Americanos USA, a subsidiary of Dallas-based Greyhound Lines Inc.  Americanos is said to have a good federal safety record, even though the company's vehicles were involved in 10 accidents in three states in the proceeding 30 months prior to this accident.  Americanos had approximately 137 motor coaches in service at the time of the accident.  According to the NTSB, Americanos has been involved in one accident for every 13 buses in service. By comparison, Greyhound has been involved in one accident for every eight buses in service.

"The NTSB has long advocated that motor coaches include seat belts and other occupational safety devices, but the recommendations have yet to be turned into law, in part because of strong lobbying by bus companies."  The lack of seat belts and other safety devices on charter-buses make them extremely dangerous when they are in a crash or flip over.  Passengers in these bus can be thrown several feet causing serious injuries or even death.

This Americanos USA bus was headed from Texas to the Mexican border city of Matamoros at the time of the bus crash.

Houston-bound Mexico Charter-Bus Crash in Victoria Texas Kills One and Send Several Passengers to the Hospital

Investigators are seeking answers to determine the cause of a fatal bus injury accident in south Texas.  This Mexico charter-bus injury accident killed one person and injured dozens of others.  The charter-bus from Houston from Monterrey, Mexico, overturned on U.S. 59. According to witnesses and DPS officials, it appears that a fatigued bus driver overcorrected after the bus veered off the road.  This overcorrection caused the charter-bus to land on its side.

The charter-bus was owned by Capricorn Bus Lines Inc. and under lease to International Charter Services Inc. These Mexico charter-bus trips are common and many bus companies provide charter-bus trips to Mexico from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and other parts of Texas and the United States.

In the aftermath of the charter-bus injury accident 20 passengers were admitted to the hospital several in serious condition and another 24 people were brought to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria to be examines.  One of the more critically injured passengers has to be airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and two passengers were airlifted to Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio.

Safety Officers not on Duty when Unsage Bus that Caused a Fatal Accident entered Texas and the United States

"A federal transportation official said no Texas or U.S. motor safety officers were on duty when an unsafe bus crossed the border hours before a fatal crash. National Transportation Safety Board investigator Pete Kotowski spoke at a hearing Tuesday exploring the January crash near Victoria, Texas, that killed one man. The bus was carrying 46 passengers.

Kotowski said the bus was checked by customs and border officers when it came into the United States at a Laredo, Texas, crossing. It was returning to Houston from Monterrey, Mexico.

Bus owner Capricorn Bus Lines Inc. of Houston wasn't allowed to operate buses outside Texas. This bus could travel to Mexico because it was leased to International Charter Services Inc., also of Houston."

Federal Investigation of Houston-based Charter Bus Crash Uncovers Parts Scheme

"A federal investigation into the crash of a Houston-based charter bus has revealed what is believed to be a scheme to move Mexican-made motor coaches illegally into the U.S. through Texas using a Dallas-based firm, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board told the Houston Chronicle."

Charter Bus Company Offers No Explanation for Hiring Driver with DWIs

"Officials from a charter bus company could not explain why they hired the driver now being investigated in a fatal bus accident despite his three prior convictions for drunken driving.  Baltazar Flores Jr., of Houston-based Capricorn Bus Lines, said yesterday the company doesn't hire unsafe drivers."  The bus company officials could not say why the company hired a bus driver that had three convictions for drunken driving.

The charter bus was traveling to Houston from Monterrey, Mexico when the driver misjudged a curve and lost control of the vehicle near Victoria.  During the bus crash the bus turned over on its side killing one man and causing a female passenger to lose her arm.

Normally, bus companies examine a drivers' records and have them undergo physicals and drug testing during the hiring process.  Failure to follow these procedures can all unsafe and reckless drivers behind the wheel of large buses resulting in devastating bus accidents.

Texas to Mexico Bus Company Charter Accident Lawsuits, Texas Charter Bus Company Lawsuits, Texas Bus Company Lawsuits, Texas Bus Company Poor Maintenance Accident Lawsuits, and Texas Bus Driver Negligence Collision Lawsuits

There are numerous bus companies that provide bus and shuttle services that charter buses and provide bus travel through the state of Texas and through the United States.  Some of these companies include: Arrow Trailways of Texas, Star Shuttle & Charter, River City Coaches, Lone Star Bus Lines Inc. Trailways, Greyhound Lines Inc., El Expresso Bus Company/A Coach USA Co., Eagle Tours Inc., Daisy Tours/Conventions San Antonio, Coach USA/Gray Line of San Antonio & Austin, Coach USA Inc., Coach USA Houston/Gray Line of Houston, Coach USA Dallas, Central West of Texas Inc., Central Texas Trails Inc., ACH Travel & Tours Inc., and Star Shuttle & Charter.

Most of these bus and shuttle services provide safe travel for there passengers, but occasionally a negligent driver or negligent maintenance workers on the buses or shuttles will cause serious accidents or collisions that result in bus passengers or shuttle passengers suffering catastrophic injuries or deadly injuries.  In these situations, it is important to thoroughly investigate the cause of the bus or shuttle accident to determine the cause of the shuttle or bus collision.  Not only is it important to determine the cause of the shuttle or bus accident for any potential bus accident or shuttle accident lawsuit, but also to make sure that similar fatal bus accidents, catastrophic injury bus accidents, fatal shuttle accidents, or catastrophic injury bus accidents do not happen again.

Because of the large sizes of buses and shuttles, it is extremely important that they be well maintained and operated safely.  Safe operation of buses not only is important to protect the shuttle and bus passengers, but also other drivers and vehicle passengers on roads and highways as well as pedestrians, bicyclists, runners, and people on a motorcycle or in a much smaller vehicle.  The damage that a large out of control bus can do to a person including a bus passenger, bus driver, shuttle passenger, cyclist, pedestrian, or passengers in other vehicles can cause serious injuries, catastrophic damages, and even death.

Because of the large potential damages and injuries that a shuttle or bus accident can cause, bus and shuttle charter companies are required to carry insurance to cover potential damages that they could cause in a bus or shuttle accident.  As such, it is important to have a Texas Shuttle or Bus Accident Lawyer that is able to understand different potential insurance coverages as well as how to deal with insurance adjusters and how to litigate a catastrophic injury or fatal bus accident law suit.
