Texas Private Ambulance Service News Uncovers Unqualified Drivers and Drivers with Criminal Backgrounds & Invalid Drivers Licenses
Audit Finds Flaws in TxDOT Program

By: Reagan Hackleman
"A new report by the State Auditor's Office uncovered some mishandlings with a program run by the Texas Department of Transportation. The Medical Transportation Program is designed to help mainly Medicaid patients get to and from doctors appointments. Last year, they transported 196,308 Texans in an ambulance from a private medical transportation company. The companies must meet certain requirements if the government foots the bill.
The report focused on four transportation providers in the state: American Medical Response, Irving Holdings, LaFleur Transportation and East Texas Support Services. Of the 239 drivers studied, 16 percent had criminal backgrounds and 14 percent had invalid driver's licenses.
The report found a TxDOT program hired people with criminal backgrounds and invalid drivers' licenses. The audit also found some of the subcontractors hired by private medical transport companies are not on TxDOT's approved list. The largest transportation provider is American Medical Response. An email from their regional director of communications said..."This [report] is not for AMR ambulances, paramedics or EMTs ... this [report] was for subcontractors for a managed transportation contract."
"We'll have to tighten our rules and procedures that we have with the program that regulate what the vendors and contractors can do and how they are to perform in the program," TxDOT spokesperson Mark Cross said. For now, TxDOT said the contracts with the private medical transport companies will continue.
TxDOT has less than a year to try and fix the medical transportation program. Starting Sept. 1, 2008, the program will be under the control of the Texas Health and Human Service Commission."

"TX-DOT plans to reenact a Christmas morning accident in Leonard involving an ambulance that killed three people to find out why the accident happened."
"A Shreveport, Louisiana, woman and her twin sons were killed in the accident Christmas morning around 6:00 a.m. in the Leonard/Trenton area. Authorities tell us a Bonham ambulance, headed North on FM 981 did not see a Chevy Malibu headed North on Highway 69, and pulled out in front of it.
The Malibu hit the ambulance. The impact sent both vehicles off the road, flipping the ambulance on its side, sending the Malibu crashing through a fence, killing the driver and her twin sons."

Alcohol related automobile accidents are one of the leading causes of death in Texas as well as in the United States. Under Texas law a driver is considered drunk or under the influence if they do not have the normal use of mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol, a controlled substance, a drug, a dangerous drug, a combination of two or more of those substances, or any other substance into the body or if they have a blood alcohol concentration of over .08. It is against Texas law for drunk drivers to operate motor vehicles, water craft, and air craft. If the drunk driver causes an automobile accident or boating accident that causes serious injuries or death, they can be charged under Texas law with intoxication assault or intoxication manslaughter both serious felonies.

Texas Truck Accident Claims
Fatal Truck Accidents are too common in Texas and in Austin. The Texas Trucking industry is a multi-million dollar industry that profits from hundreds of thousands of large commercial trucks driving on our roads and highways. Whether you are on I-35, Mopac, 71, 290, Lamar or another highway or road in Austin, large commercial trucks are common. Whether these large trucks are moving in and out of a construction site or traveling to make their next drop off, it is important to give these large trucks room.
Unfortunately, these large trucks cannot be avoided and many Trucking Companies to save money use untrained, overworked, or inexperienced drivers and put stressful time constraints on these drivers causing the to rush to make deliveries. These actions combined with poor maintenance can cause these drivers to drive negligently and lose control of their vehicles causing them to jackknife, overturn, or collide with passenger vehicles. When this happens it is typically the passengers of the smaller vehicle that suffer. If this has happened to you or your family, it is a good idea to obtain excellent legal representation to protect your or your loved one's rights and to make sure that an investigation as to the cause of the collision in done correctly. Truck collision accident claims can be difficult to handle especially if you are recovering from serious injuries or grieving from the loss of one or more family members.
If you have been seriously injured by in an Austin Automobile Accident whether it is a truck collision, car crash, motorcycle accident, or other automobile collision, it is important to seek medical help to determine how to treat the head trauma, back herniations, broken bones, or injuries you have suffered. It is then a good idea to contact the authorities and/or explore a possible law suit to make sure that the wrongful act or hazardous conditions can be remedied. Texans do not need dangerous truck drivers or negligent trucking companies making our roads, streets, and highways more dangerous. Large commercial trucks that weigh several tons are dangerous enough when driven safely and when they are well maintained. Deregulation of the trucking industry in Texas has made the number of dangerous truck on our roads and trucking companies operating on our highways increase dramatically. Be careful out there and avoid being the victim of a truck accident or a serious truck collision.
